Where to buy a new Mac mini: Amazon, B&H or Apple, by configuration
The memory you order decides the store. Amazon lists the four standard models; the 32GB, 48GB and 64GB tiers that local AI buyers want are custom builds from Apple or B&H, and memory cannot be added later.

The memory you order decides the store, and for a standard model the price does too. On Sept. 16, 2026, Amazon had exact listings for the four standard M6 and M5 Pro Mac minis and none for any other memory tier.
- A standard model (M6 with 16GB/256GB, 16GB/512GB or 24GB/512GB; M5 Pro with 24GB/512GB): Amazon had the lowest dated price for all four, $19 to $29 under Apple’s list when last seen Sept. 5-10. Start with the M6 16GB/256GB on Amazon, last seen at $879.99 on Sept. 10 and may be gone, or find your model in the table.
- Eligible for education pricing: Apple. Its announcement lists the M6 from $799 and the M5 Pro from $1,599 in the education store, $100 under list and below Amazon’s last-seen prices for those models.
- A 32GB M6, or a 48GB or 64GB M5 Pro: a custom build from Apple or B&H. Pay for the memory now; it cannot be added later.
- Not sure you need a new one: $0. Check what your current computer can run, or price a used M4 against its price floor.
Return deadlines for a Sept. 22 delivery: Oct. 6 at Apple; Oct. 22 at Amazon when the listing shows the standard 30-day window, which outlasts Prime Big Deal Days on Oct. 6-7. Details.
Which store sells each configuration
Amazon’s prices below are preorder prices last reported by 9to5Toys on Sept. 10 and Sept. 5 and by MacRumors on Sept. 2. Prices move; check the current price on the listing.
| Configuration | Apple’s U.S. list price | Lowest dated price | Exact Amazon listing | B&H | Apple |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| M6, 16GB/256GB | $899 | Last seen $879.99 at Amazon, Sept. 10; may be gone | Amazon listing | MHQK4LL/A | Standard model |
| M6, 16GB/512GB | $1,099 | Last seen $1,069.99 at Amazon, Sept. 10; may be gone | Amazon listing | MHQL4LL/A | Standard model |
| M6, 24GB/512GB | $1,299 | Last seen $1,269.99 at Amazon, Sept. 5; may be gone | Amazon listing | MHQM4LL/A | Standard model |
| M6, 32GB | $899 plus $400 | - | None found | Custom builds, such as Z1UA00040, 32GB/256GB | Custom order, or Apple’s 32GB/1TB model |
| M5 Pro 15-core, 24GB/512GB | $1,699 | Last seen $1,669.99 at Amazon, Sept. 10; may be gone | Amazon listing | MHQN4LL/A | Standard model |
| M5 Pro, 48GB | $1,699 plus $600 | - | None found | Custom builds, such as Z1UD0007V, 15-core, 48GB/1TB | Custom order |
| M5 Pro, 64GB | $1,699 plus $1,000; the 18-core 64GB/1TB model is $3,199 | - | None found | Custom builds in B&H’s Mac mini catalog | Custom order, or Apple’s 18-core 64GB/1TB model |
Apple’s $899 and $1,699 are from its Aug. 25 announcement, $1,099 and $1,299 were recorded Sept. 2, and the memory upgrades and the $3,199 model are Apple’s configurator prices from Aug. 25, set out in what Apple charges for memory. Confirm your total in Apple’s configurator before ordering.
The one M5 Pro Amazon lists uses the 15-core chip; Amazon had no listing for the 18-core M5 Pro on Sept. 16. On Amazon, check that it’s shipped and sold by Amazon.com.
Four listings that look right and are not
We saw each of these on Amazon on Sept. 16.
AppleCare+ bundles that name no configuration. Amazon carries a listing titled “Apple 2026 Mac mini desktop computer M6 chip with AppleCare+ (3 years)” and an M5 Pro equivalent. Neither title states memory or storage, so the machine you get is set on the page, not in the title. Confirm both before ordering. A bundle is not the only route to coverage: Apple says AppleCare+ can be added within 60 days of buying a new Mac.
A search title that is not the product. One listing titled in search results as an M5 Ultra Mac Studio with 96GB opened on Amazon as an M5 Max with 36GB, a different chip at a different memory tier. Trust only the title on the product page itself.
Last year’s M4 under a near-identical title. New M4 minis still list as “Apple 2024 Mac mini Desktop Computer with M4 chip,” against “Apple 2026 Mac mini Desktop Computer M6 chip.” The year and the chip are the whole difference, so read both.
Renewed is not new. An M4 16GB/256GB listing we read ends its title with “Renewed Premium.” That is Amazon’s refurbished program, not Apple certified refurbished and not an M6.
If the mini is for a local AI model
Memory is the whole decision for a local model, and the tiers that matter most are the ones Amazon does not list. On our published estimates, 16GB runs 8B-class models, and 14B at a stretch. The tier for 70B dense models is 64GB, and no M6 gets past about 21.3GB that the GPU can address, because macOS reserves about a third of memory below 32GB. Size the model with how much memory to order and local AI hardware by budget, then come back to the table for the store.
Dates, returns and AppleCare+ deadlines
- Arrival. Apple’s announcement says the new minis begin arriving to customers, Apple Store locations and Apple Authorized Resellers starting Sept. 22. Apple’s U.S. store still showed available starting 9.22 on Sept. 17. Read the delivery date on the Amazon or B&H listing before you order.
- Apple returns: 14 days. Apple’s Sales and Refund Policy allows a return or exchange with a receipt within 14 days of the date you receive the product. An order that arrives Sept. 22 reaches day 14 on Oct. 6.
- Amazon returns: 30 days, per the listing. Amazon’s return policy says most items can be returned within 30 days of delivery, that desktops are non-returnable more than 30 days after delivery, and that an item’s return eligibility is shown on its product page. On a standard window, an order delivered Sept. 22 stays returnable through Oct. 22, past Prime Big Deal Days; Apple’s window closes Oct. 6.
- AppleCare+: 60 days. Apple’s coverage page says that when you purchase a new Mac, you can add AppleCare+ within 60 days of purchase, in Settings, then General, then AppleCare & Warranty.
- Prime Big Deal Days: Oct. 6-7. Amazon’s announcement dates the event Oct. 6-7 for Prime members, starting 12:01 a.m. PDT on Oct. 6. For the price each Mac listing has to beat on those days, use the sale-day price check.
Mac Studio
One Mac Studio configuration had a matching Amazon product page on Sept. 16: the M5 Max with an 18-core CPU, 32-core GPU, 36GB and 512GB. Apple lists that model from $2,499, according to its Aug. 25 announcement. For the 40-core M5 Max with 64GB, the M5 Ultra with 96GB or any other Studio, Amazon had no matching product page that day; order from Apple’s store.
We recheck these listings and prices on Sept. 22 and Oct. 5, and whenever Apple changes a configuration price. A listing that stops matching its configuration or goes out of stock is replaced or removed.
Sources and dates
- Amazon prices are preorder prices reported by MacRumors Aug. 28 and Sept. 2, AppleInsider Sept. 1 and 9to5Toys Sept. 5 and Sept. 10; 9to5Toys rounded its Sept. 10 prices to the dollar, and the 24GB M6 row uses its Sept. 5 report because the Sept. 10 roundup gave conflicting figures for that model.
- Amazon titles, including the Mac Studio's, were matched to chip, memory, storage and model year on each product page Sept. 17.
- B&H part numbers and configurations are from B&H product titles and descriptions.
- Apple's $899 and $1,699 list prices and $799 and $1,599 education prices are from its Aug. 25 announcement;
- $1,099 and $1,299 were recorded Sept. 2; the memory upgrade prices and the $3,199 price of the 18-core 64GB/1TB model are Apple's U.S. configurator prices from Aug. 25, cross-checked against Daring Fireball.
- Return and AppleCare+ terms are from Apple's and Amazon's policy pages;
- Prime Big Deal Days dates are from Amazon's announcement.
