About Hard Bargains

For decades, hardware purchases and upgrades followed a simple path: more power for less money. Recent trends have disrupted that, first with GPUs, now with RAM, hard drives and other parts. Deciding what to buy is more complex than ever, and there are more avenues to choose from.

Hard Bargains is a navigation layer for the hardware market. We pair data-driven reporting with buyer tools, beat by beat.

We cover four buying jobs: hardware for running AI models locally, used Macs, screens and desks, and a daily used-Mac price tracker built from time-stamped observations across retailer and marketplace sources. Published reports also use official product information, primary documents and clearly identified outside reporting.

How we work

Hardware markets change. A dated observation describes what we found then, not a promise that the same offer is still available. We publish update dates, sample sizes and material limitations next to the conclusions they qualify.

Commercial relationships

Hard Bargains participates in Amazon Associates. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. Purchases through our Amazon links may earn us a commission.

Amazon Associates is our only current affiliate relationship. Links to other retailers do not currently earn us a commission. We update this page when our relationships change.

Payment does not determine our recommendations or the order of offers.

Corrections

Send the page URL, the fact or figure at issue and the best supporting source to hello@hard.bargains. We will distinguish a correction to the record from a routine update to a changing market observation.
